Job opening: School Improvement Empowerment Specialist (Contracted)

Are you an experienced educator who is passionate about excellence in Alaska’s schools? Do you have a desire to support school improvement and student achievement in schools statewide? We are looking for five certificated educators (currently teaching/leading or retired) with outstanding communication skills and stellar track records in leading and/or supporting school turn-around to serve as School Improvement Empowerment Specialists for a unique pilot program. The Empowerment Specialists (contracted through SERRC) will work with Region 16 Comprehensive Center and the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development to support the intensive needs of a Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI – Lowest 5%) school. The position will be contracted for approximately 40 hours per month, through June 30, 2022. 

The position is open until filled.

SCOPE OF WORK & EXPECTATIONS INCLUDE:

  • Develop strong, positive relationships with the team, leadership, and communities.
  • Design and deliver trainings to CSI Lowest 5% schools and staff,  both online and in-person.
  • Provide leadership in developing measurable and intentional goals tied to academic achievement and the goals of the project.
  • Support the needs of the community assigned through the development and implementation of evidence-based reading and literacy programs with the goal of all students reading at grade level by the end of Grade 3.
  • Assist school leaders in aligning local curriculum and assessments with Alaska State Standards.
  • Infuse the community and cultural standards into the service components, training, and school improvement plan.
  • Build standard operating procedures with leadership teams to support rigorous, high-quality, and evidence-based instruction.
  • Foster a positive school climate and learning environment that is attentive to local culture and a culture of learning.
  • Participate in training sessions and professional development provided by the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development, SERRC, and the Region 16 Comprehensive Center related to the empowerment process and the pilot program.
